Inner Child Meditation
Tonight in the healing group I lead, we focused on our inner child and completed a wonderful journey that uncovered a lot of old memories, joys and pains and highlighted how our life paths have unfolded over the years.
There are many different aspects that make up who we are inside. Some aspects are our past lives, inner child, saboteur, angelic, draconic or any other aspect imaginable. These inner aspects of ourselves guide us every day and can help us to understand why we react to different situations in life the way we do.
By taking the time to talk to them; we are able to ask for their guidance and reasoning behind why some patterns repeat themselves, why we feel upset about a certain situation or why we may be trying to sabotage our life. There are several methods to talk with these inner parts of ourselves, through guided meditation and journeys, dreams and automatic writing.
The guided meditation focused on the inner child. Our inner child is very important, because he/she holds many thoughts and feelings from our past experiences. Sometimes these are experiences we may have forgotten and never healed from. When past experiences have caused a lot of pain or sorrow, sometimes trauma or confusion will lead to a habitual response to any new experience that reminds our inner child of the past experience. Due to the confusion that happens when you experienced some trauma, abuse or pain, the inner child may have remained at the age when the trauma was received and never moved forward to understand those events. So many people still react to present issues from the age of 5, 6 or 7 because of abuse, parents divorcing or dying, car accidents, or medical traumas.
If you have found that you have been reacting to situations in the same way and developed a habit of just reacting without reasoning why, it may be good to take the journey to meet your inner child and discuss some of the issues in your life and help heal the past. Sometimes it could have been something so simple as not being played with by a group of children at school and is resulting in a continued feeling of separation and inability to connect with others, resulting in low self esteem and loneliness.
Working with your inner child will help lead you back to a place of peace and power. Many times as adults we have lost our true voice, some not willing to speak much at all and definitely not from their heart. Talking with your inner child, you can revisit where you lost your true voice and learn to stand in your own truth and speak from your heart again. Your inner child also will help guide you back to the passions you used to hold, the dreams you may have forgotten and the path you can still take that will lead to your heart’s fulfillment and soul’s progression. Sometimes we let others tell us which path to take in life and in the mundane adult world we lose sight of our passion, creativity and spark for life. This makes us grow listless, without feeling and wonder at all that is around us. Talking with your inner child will help you find that passion, rediscover the small wonders that amazed you so much as a child and help you find your path in life.
Hope you enjoy journeying with your inner child and playing with them in the great adventure of life!
The below meditation is different from the one we performed tonight. Tonight, I just let Spirit provide the words and direction for the journeys. The journey lead each to visit their inner children at specific stages of development, starting at ages 3-5, 9-10, 13-14 and 16-18 to see the progress of their lives and how they had changed to who they are now. The focus was on finding total acceptance for who we are right now and thanking each part of ourselves for leading us to this point in time.
~o~o~o~ Inner Child Meditation ~o~o~o~
Since this is a special meditation, you may want to prepare your meditation space in a special way. Add a few ritualistic events, such as lighting a white candle and stating your intention for this meditation session. It is also good to call upon your higher self, God, Goddess, angels, spirit guides and power animals to assist you in this meditation.
For this example, I will be using the inner child, though as stated previously this meditation can be used to connect with any aspect of yourself. An example of an intention for this type of meditation is: “My intention for today’s meditation is to come in contact with my inner child, to help me focus in on why I am feeling so angry all of the time. I call upon God, Goddess, All that is, all of my guides and angels to walk with me on this journey and help me to be open and listen from heart during this journey so I can get everything I can out of it.”
Some people like to decorate their meditative space with the statues of Quan Yin, favorite Saints, Angels, cross, crystals or other sacred symbols to add to the spiritual significance of this meditation. Light a candle, some incense and put on your favorite meditation music. Anything that helps you to relax and feel at peace will work well. Be sure that you have time set aside where you do not have to hurry and will not be bothered. Remember to turn off your phone!
Sit or lay down in a comfortable position, one that you can sustain for about 30-45 minutes. Close your eyes and take in a deep cleansing breath. As you breath in, breath in white light, love and peace to fill your body, letting it flow into every cell. Breath out all stress, worry and fear you may have, letting it release from your body and letting go of all tension held in your muscles. Repeat these deep breaths 3 times, with each breath allow your body to relax further and further into a state of serenity.
On your last exhale, imagine the events of the day or week floating out of your body. Know that any thoughts or worries you may have can be put aside for the next hour and will not be forgotten, there is nothing you have to do right now but just feel the breath in your body and the warm light and love surrounding you.
Breathe in once more, feeling the warmth of love and light filling you completely, feel it spread out from your heart into all areas of your body until you are completely enveloped in a safe circle of glowing light. Nothing but your highest good may pass through the light that surrounds you and while you are encircled in the light, nothing can harm you.
State your intention for this meditation again, for example “I wish to speak with my Inner Child about this {Problem} and ask that my higher self, God and the angels assist me in this journey. Thank you for helping me tonight.”
Close your eyes and try to focus on your third eye, allowing your third eye to expand until you see a blue or indigo light glowing. Simply relax and allow yourself to open and journey deeper into yourself. As you continue to relax, allow yourself to see a tunnel begin to take shape. Let yourself journey down the tunnel, look to see what surrounds you and feel the sides of the tunnel. Continue walking along, knowing that you can return to your body at any time, but this is a journey you are willing to make.
Just ahead of you, there is a set of glass doors. Reach for the handle and open the glass doors, into a realm of brilliant golden white light. Let yourself feel the unconditional love and peace within this light. A feeling of peace, calm and protection fills you. With each step you feel more relaxed and at peace. This universal energy lifts your spirits and connects you to God, Goddess and All that IS. Opening you to the universal consciousness and allowing you to learn and grow within your soul.
As you continue to walk within the realm of light, you notice a figure standing in the distance. You keep walking and realize that this is your inner child waiting patiently for you. As you get closer you start to notice the way your inner child looks, seeing their face and clothes, what style is their hair and if they are wearing any jewelry.
The closer you get, the more details you can see. Look into their face and see what expression your inner child has. Are they happy, sad, frowning or smiling? As you look deep within their eyes, you can see and feel very clearly that you know this part of you.
As you embrace, you can feel their energy surrounding you, both spiritually and physically. You make a mental note of this feeling so that you can recognize it when you return and feel your inner part during your conscious state.
Now is the time to begin talking with your inner child. You can ask how old they are and what they may want to share with you at this time. Some good questions to ask are: What happened to you during this age? What do you need to remember? What can you as the adult help them to understand? What are you (inner child) trying to protect yourself from by behaving or reacting to your life the way you do right now?
Take the time to really listen and visit with your inner child. Ask them what their favorite toy was and what their favorite activity was. Knowing these items will help you when you return to body. After your meditation, take a trip to the toy store and look at your old favorites. Remember the joy you had from a toy, and if you can afford it, buy that toy for yourself. Take the time to play with it and relish in the fun it brings you. Do the favorite activity of your inner child. Sometimes inner children pop up because you have forgotten to play. Play is still an important part of everyday life, even as an adult. Never forget to take time to play; work is not that important that 10-15 minutes out of your day you can’t find the time to do something purely for the fun of it!
When you have concluded your visit, make sure you thank them deeply for their gift of service and protection to you, even though you may not feel it is a protection, they are a part of you and feel they are doing what is right. Try to explain to them that you are an adult now and capable of protecting yourself and living for your greatest good. Thank them for coming here during this meditation with you. Give them a goodbye hug and a kiss. Tell your inner child how much you love them unconditionally and always will.
Now is the time to journey back through the glass doors and heading back down to your body. Take with you the feelings of total peace and contentment, the golden white light carries with you back to your body. All the emotions, sensations and answers you received are carried back with you and stored in your mind, always available to you and able to be remembered.
Take in a deep breath; begin to feel your body. Gently allow your awareness to return to your body. Feel the chair or floor beneath your body, move your arms and legs. Slowly sit up and stretch, very gracefully like a cat. When you are ready open your eyes and allow your consciousness to return to the room and everyday life.
Take the time once you are back in your body to record your journey, either by writing it down or recording it. It’s important to do it right away while the images, feelings and sounds are still clear in your mind. Put down all of the details you noticed from the moment you stepped into the tunnel, the way your inner child looked and the way you felt upon completing the journey.
